Michael Jackson & The Jackson 5: The Stripped Mixes (2009)In a posthumous revival of Michael Jackson's childhood work with the Jackson 5, Motown has released "stripped down" versions of the band's biggest hits in an album titled Stripped Mixes. By toning down the percussion and instrumental background, the production company has brought Michael's prodigeous vocal talent to the forefront of these great American classics. As previously unreleased versions of the Jackson 5's music, this record is reminiscent of an acoustic release of a blues guitar album, using barebone orchestration both as a method of drawing attention to vocal talent as well as harmonic language. Without the clutter of instrumentation, we can now fully appreciate the vocal harmonies which the Jackson 5 so skillfully performed.
